Disclaimer

Important limits on the general information published on this website, including cost guidance and advice about tree protection rules.

Last updated: 19 August 2026

We publish a reasonable amount of practical information on this site — costs, methods, tree safety indicators and how Auckland's tree protection rules work — because we think people deserve to understand what they are buying. This page explains the limits of that information.

General information only

Nothing on this website is professional advice about a specific tree, a specific property or a specific legal situation. Trees are individual, sites are individual, and planning rules apply property by property. Always get a proper on-site assessment before acting.

1. This is not site-specific advice

Information published here is general in nature. It cannot account for the condition of your particular tree, the soil and slope of your section, what is buried under it, the structures around it, or the planning provisions applying to your title.

Do not rely on anything on this site as a substitute for an on-site inspection by a qualified arborist. In particular, do not use our guidance on warning signs to conclude that a tree is safe. Absence of visible symptoms does not establish structural soundness — internal decay is frequently invisible from the ground.

2. Cost information is indicative only

Price ranges published on this website are broad planning estimates for the Auckland market at the date of publication. They are provided so you can budget and sanity-check quotes. They are not quotes, not offers, and not binding on us.

Actual pricing depends on factors that cannot be assessed remotely, including access, the available drop zone, proximity to buildings and services, the tree's condition, disposal volumes, stump requirements, and whether traffic management, crane hire or resource consent is needed. Two apparently similar trees can differ substantially in price for entirely legitimate reasons.

Market rates change. Figures may not be updated immediately and may not reflect current conditions.

Our explanations of tree protection, resource consent, neighbour rights and related matters are written to be useful to property owners, not to be legally exhaustive. They are not legal advice and should not be relied on as such.

Whether a specific tree is protected depends on the schedules and overlays in the Auckland Unitary Plan applying to that property, and on any conditions attached to a resource consent or subdivision affecting the title. That must be confirmed with Auckland Council — the GeoMaps viewer is the practical starting point.

Legislation and council policy change. Content here reflects our understanding at the time of writing and may become out of date. For advice on your legal position, consult a lawyer. For advice about consent, contact Auckland Council directly.

4. Safety information

Where we describe how tree work is carried out, that is to help you understand what you are paying for — not to enable you to do it yourself.

Tree felling, climbing, rigging and chainsaw work are among the most dangerous activities undertaken in New Zealand, and storm-damaged trees are more dangerous still because of the stored energy in wood under tension. We strongly recommend engaging a qualified, insured arborist for any tree work beyond light hand pruning at ground level.

We accept no responsibility for injury, death or damage arising from anyone attempting tree work based on information published here. See WorkSafe New Zealand's tree work guidance.

5. Electrical hazards

Never undertake work on or near trees in contact with, or close to, power lines. Electricity can arc across a gap, and green wood and wet surfaces conduct. Contact your network operator or emergency services before going near the tree. Nothing on this website should be read as encouraging any approach to an energised conductor.

6. Accuracy and availability

We take reasonable care to ensure information on this site is accurate and current, but we do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, current or error-free. Content may be changed or removed without notice, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the site.

7. External links

This site links to third-party resources including Auckland Council, WorkSafe New Zealand, New Zealand legislation and industry bodies. These links are provided because we believe they are useful and authoritative. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content or availability, and a link does not imply endorsement of everything they publish. External organisations may restructure or remove pages at any time.

8. Examples and descriptions of work

Descriptions of typical jobs, situations and suburb conditions on this site are illustrative of the kind of work we do, based on our general experience across the Auckland region. They are not representations about the outcome of any particular job, and they do not guarantee results on your property.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on information published on this website. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.

10. Questions

If something on this site appears inaccurate or out of date, please tell us — we would rather fix it.
